‘Bird lady’ award proposed

Pam Howlett was well known as Pamure’s bird lady.  During her lifetime, she has rescued tens of thousands of birds.  Every year she had been looking after 2,000 to 3,000 birds.  Ms Howlett was awarded the QSM this year but she passed away in July last year.  A friend of hers named Joy Edwards says that the bird lady has sacrificed her health when she took care of the birds at her home close to Panmure Basin.
Ms Howlett had spent 30 years looking after shag colonies.  The birds had broken wings and beaks and with hooks imbedded.  She knew more about birds than most vets do. (Photo:  RA)
